About the Book
Katja can see and speak with the dead. Special abilities like this are born into those who are called Avids; those who are then killed or sold into slavery. The man who owns her, Marco Volkov, uses this ability to his advantage and keeps Katja in line with threats of violence. A double murder results in the hiring of Marco to use his avid to capture the murderer. Katja begins to uncover the truth to more than the simple murder at hand-secrets that could destroy everything. A witty stranger sparks lost hope within Katja, something she thought she gave up on long ago. Katja must learn to play along if she has any chance to escape.
Quick Review (Spoiler Free)
Y’all... this book. I devoured it. And now I have to wait for book two.Â
This was hands down my favorite read of May and I loved the characters, the pacing, and the overall theme. The spicy scenes are few but worth it. The characters are are flushed out well. The writing style was easy to read and felt realistic to the plot. The pacing of this book starts slow and as you reach the final few pages it picks up while setting the story up for book two.

I loved the characters, the pacing, and the overall theme. The spicy scenes are few but worth it. The characters are are flushed out well. I felt like I could connect with each of the main characters because we got to know them more throughout the story. The writing style was easy to read and felt realistic to the plot. The pacing of this book starts slow and as you reach the final few pages it picks up while setting the story up for book two of the trilogy.
I really enjoyed that it was a good mix of romance and mystery. I began reading fantasy and mystery/thriller genres and when I get a good mix of the two, *chef's kiss*. I didn't feel like any aspect of the story was lost to include the genres and sub tropes that we had. It all seemed to mesh very well together.
I really don't like cliffhangers in books. But, I enjoyed this book enough that I was able to look past that because the rest of the story had me so captivated.
100% recommend for fantasy romance readers who love a good paranormal mystery. It also throws in some good touch her and die vibes too from our possessive MMC and I know there are a lot of romance girlies who love that.
