After her father’s death, village healer Maelis Rose is unexpectedly summoned to Ashwell Academy, a brutal school that trains supernatural Veilguards to save lives on the battlefield. As the only human among vampires, fae, shifters, angels, and demons, Maelis must prove she belongs—all while battling grief, dangerous training, and the unsettling attention of a morally gray vampire who seems determined to push her to her limits. But Ashwell didn’t summon Maelis by accident, and the secret hidden in her blood may be far more dangerous than she realizes.

Quick Review (Spoiler Free)
You guys... it's 3:30 in the morning...
ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!
(^Me... followed by unnecessary back and forth page flips like I could magically access the pages of the next book...)
I can't even begin to think how long I'll have to wait for the rest of the story. I read 5 chapters and reluctantly had to be an adult... then absolutely devoured the rest in one sitting. Poppy will forever be one of my favorite side characters and Maelis is definitely one of my favorite MMCs. Poppy is the embodiment of the hug you need from a friend when you've had a bad day. Maelis is the girl who had a crappy accident change her life and had stumbled through turn after turn off slaps in the face but refuses to go down. I cannot wait to keep reading... especially after that ending!!!
I don't know how I'm expected to go to sleep after having that slow burn start to burn and then having to watch it jump off the cliff into the black hole of time before book 2 releases...
I would like to thank Ashley R. O'Donovan for this eARC opportunity!
