About the Book
Harry Potter has never known anything about his family, other than he lives with his awful aunt, uncle, and cousin. He currently lives in the cupboard under their staircase at number four, Privet Drive. One day, Harry receives a letter addressed to him that was quickly destroyed by Uncle Vernon. Then, a giant man named Rubeus Hagrid shows up on Harry's 11th birthday and tells him that he is a famous wizard and that he has been invited to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! Harry never expected the adventure that he was thrust into from that moment forward.
Quick Review (Spoiler Free)
As soon as I learned about the full cast version of this book, I was so excited! Within the first hour, I was even more excited to meet all the characters again. This gave what I imagine the feeling would be to read something you enjoy for the first time again. I have read the book and seen the movie, but listening to this made it feel new again. I loved the casting overall and I even remembered some things while listening that I had forgotten over the years.Â

Now, let's get into the details!!
I began reading these books when I was in high school, I believe my freshman year, and I watched all of the movies as they came out. I think I was up to book 5 before I started having to wait for them to release to read them. Re-reading them now reminded me that I really forgot a lot of the smaller details. This only makes me more excited for the HBO remake of the series because I'm hoping they can include some of these details that I forgot.
Here are some of the things I forgot about that are different between the movie and book:
The entire scene at the beginning of the book where Vernon encounters oddities throughout town. Or the fact that Vernon saw McGonagall as a cat throughout the day before Harry was dropped off.
Dudley's friend, Piers, doesn't get mentioned in the movies even though he was a main character in the zoo encounter. Dudley also does not get trapped within the snake enclosure like he does in the movie.
Hagrid tells Harry that he was expelled from Hogwarts when they are shopping in Diagon Alley.
In the book, Harry tried several wands before getting his at Ollivander's.
Harry first meets Draco Malfoy in Diagon Alley.
Harry has to get Vernon to take him to the train station after his shopping trip with Hagrid.
The Sorting Hat's song. The Sorting Hat ceremony is alphabetical.
Peeves. Like, how can we forget the most obnoxious character in the entire series. Haha. I genuinely get annoyed when Peeves puts his nose in our characters business but it really adds a new level of humor to the series.
The fact that there are so many elective courses within Hogwarts education system.
Harry finds out his dad was a Quidditch player when McGonagall introduces him to Oliver.
Harry and Ron lock the troll in the bathroom with Hermione because they didn't know it was a bathroom. They figure it out when she starts screaming.
Harry receives the invisibility cloak from Dumbledore and finds the note after he puts it on. Also, Ron doesn't immediately know what it is.
There are more Quidditch matches in the book than the movie.
Charlie Weasley is more involved with Hagrid and his dragon Norbert than the movie mentions.
There is a whole encounter with Centaurs that is missing from the movie.
The trio has a wooden flute that they got from Hagrid for when they encounter Fluffy. Hermione is the one to panic in the Devil's Snare. All the obstacles in the way of the stone were created by teachers at the school. The order of the trials was changed in the movie.
The encounter with Quirrell happens differently in the book than in the movie.
