About the Book
Saeris Fane is a skilled thief who lives in a harsh desert city where resources are scarce. Keeping secrets has been something she's good at; even her secret power that she possesses. Saeris comes face to face with a Fae warrier, Death himself, and accidentally reopens a gateway between the realms. Saeris has not only learned that the Fae are not just legends and myths but also that there is a war going on that is likely to get her killed. Saeris must work with this Fae warrior if she is going to have any hopes of making it back home.
Quick Review (Spoiler Free)
I LOVED this book. I didn’t know there was a book two and now I have to wait 10 months for it. So there’s that... The setup for this story was very well thought out. The way the information was presented all mattered in the end. I didn’t see it coming when the twist in the end happened but it tied everything into such a nice bow. Saeris and Kingfisher were amazing. The banter was great. The spice was great. All of the character interactions across the entire story were amazing. I feel like the author really put thought into creating a seamless and flowing world that I felt like I escaped into.
Now, let's get into the details!!

The pacing began slow because of the world building. The author set up the world so nicely and slowly introduced all the characters when they mattered most. I did not see one of the character twists coming, Carrion, and was quite excited about how it played out. The second half of the story is where you really begin to understand and the events start playing out in a faster pace. I felt like it gave a sense of urgency to what was happening.
I wasn't sure if I would like having two black cat characters but it made their dynamic more funny, in my opinion. Then throwing in Carrion and his charismatic, goofy into their dynamic makes it even more hilarious. I really enjoyed seeing the fae and the vampires and how their relationships are.
And at the end for Saeris to become the Queen of the Blood Court was a definite power move from this author. I'm excited to see how that plays out when her character is definitely not one who would have wanted this for herself and knowing that it was just thrust upon her. I want so badly to know how she is going to handle the responsibility.
