This is the first installment in a 5 part series. As always, if you prefer a spoiler free review please read my quick review instead of the in depth review below.

About the Book

In this intro novella, we meet Katie and Tomohiro. Katie’s mom just passed away and she was sent to live with her aunt in Japan. She is devastated and feels like she doesn’t belong. Tomohiro is keeping a secret. He is marked and haunted by a shadow and a mysterious woman who gives him premonitions of his death.

Quick Review (Spoiler Free)

This was such a good hook for the series. I wasn’t sure if I was going to be into the series so I decided to start with the novella and learn the characters. Based on what I’ve read I am really intrigued to learn how their stories will intertwine. The pacing was a little slow with Tomohiro in this book but I’m wondering if it will pick up pace now that Katie’s part of the story is lining up more. I will definitely be giving book one a shot soon.

Now, let's get into the details!!

I'm usually hesitant about starting books set in other countries because I struggle sometimes with the inserted phrases and such in other languages. This book has a glossary at the back which was nice but I didn't realize it until I finished it. Going forward I would definitely recommend looking over it.

Since I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it, I figured it couldn't hurt to start with an intro novella. I will definitely be giving book one a shot soon. I looked into it and the series is three books with two novellas which isn't too bad.

I really liked Katie's storyline. We get to see her struggle with the choice her aunt gave her when she felt like everything in her world was turned upside down.

Tomohiro is interesting because he seems to want a normal life and tries to suppress this "mark" that he has. I am not super fond of his friends so far but that could change as the story goes... at the moment they are just a little obnoxious.

I want to see how Tomohiro and Katie's fates are intertwined. I have not read the synopsis or anything on book one yet so I'm not sure what all is going to happen and am just running off the information that we got in Tomohiro's dreams. But it definitely sounds interesting and it seems unique. Hopefully that will mean the series will turn out well. Here's to adding another series to my never ending TBR.
