About the Book
Ready or not. Let the games begin. Genevieve Grimm accepts an invite from one of her mother's old friends. She arrives to the grand estate just to have entry denied by his handsome but rude son, Rowin. When she attempts to go around Rowin to get in, he demands that she leave and never come back. Genevieve isn't one to follow others orders anyway so she decides to try to slip inside. But once she's in, she realizes she has made a terrible mistake. Rowin and his family are forced to participate in a deadly game of hide and seek within the estate. Genevieve must pretend to be part of the family if she wishes to survive, meaning she is under the guise of a fake engagement to non other than the man who shut the door in her face. Genevieve is now trapped and playing more games than she signed up for.
Quick Review (Spoiler Free)
I really don't want this one to be over. I love these characters and could read about all of them and never be sad about it. I really enjoyed the pacing and the underlying story of this book. I liked Phantasma but I really loved the way the hunt was written in this one. It has a fake marriage, sibling rivalry, paranormal and magical character traits, a devilish "hunt", and will pull at your emotions. There are so many things I want to say about this book but I don't want to spoil anything. Oh, and Rowin's nickname for Genevieve had me swooning as I've realized my love for nicknames.
Now, let's get into the details!!

I really enjoyed the pacing and the underlying story of this book. I really liked Phantasma and the way that the events were driven but I really loved the way the hunt was written in this one. It has a fake marriage, sibling rivalry, paranormal and magical character traits, a devilish "hunt" a.k.a. hide and seek but deadly, and will pull at your emotions. All things I absolutely love in a good fantasy romance.
The characters were all really interesting to me, the Silver family and Genevieve. I found myself liking the main character from Phantasma where as in this interconnected story, I really enjoyed the majority of the characters in the book. And when I heard that the author was planning to write more stories I immediately and still hope that we get to see more of the Silver family later on.
I really enjoyed the relationship with Genevieve and Rowin. The way I lost it when I thought the slow burn was going to start burning but then it made me wait again... It was such an addicting read. I am a sucker for good banter with the main characters and these two delivered. Oh, and Rowin's nickname for Genevieve, Trouble, had me swooning as I've realized my love for nicknames is still going strong.
While I don't think the romance is considered dark, I do think the themes of the plot are dark. The concept of each sibling having to 1) kill each other, 2) remain dead for a year!, and 3) knowing that they are just waiting for the games to "restart" again every year is completely messed up and the stakes are high.
I would definitely read Phantasma first so that you understand the timeline and characters of Genevieve's family and backstory. They are interconnected standalones and you can get by reading them out of order or alone but there are a few references to Blackwell in here that make more sense if you read Phantasma.
